Install Flash Player on Eee PC

Here is the installation in more details:

- Open a terminal
- Type wget http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs … 108.tar.gz or download the file via a browser
- Open a terminal by pressing CTRL-ALT-T
- Once the file is downloaded, type tar xvzf flashplayer10_install_linux_081108.tar.gz
- Close any open browser window
- Type sudo ./flashplayer-installer
- Type Enter
- Type /usr/lib/iceweasel
- Type y
- Type n
- Type iceweasel to open a browser window, and check any flash website, such as YouTube.

A pity it is not installed by default.

The wizard way, install Flash 10 with a simple script
This method is for the armchair user, it does everything for you, and installs whatever latest version of flash is available from Adobe.
1.click on this link, then download the script to /home/user, then close firefox.
2.open a terminal, (ctl+alt+t), and to run the script issue the following command (copy and paste it to be safe):
sudo bash flashget.sh --upgrade
3.sit back and wait a short while
4.when it finishes it will default back to /home/user
5.shut down and reboot your Eee
To check flash is updated, open firefox, and in the address bar, or copy/paste
about:plugins
it should read
installed plugins...

The version might be higher should Adobe have updated since this article was written. If for whatever reason you decide to roll back to your previous version of flash use the following command, making sure firefox is closed
flashget.sh --restore
Method 1: install newest flash with Adobe's latest version
The advantage of doing the install this way, is that the flash download will be the latest adobe version, which at the time of this post is 10.0 r32
1.download these files: install_flash_player_10_linux & flash10patcher-0.2, then save them in /home/user (important), & close firefox.
2.(ctl+alt+t) to open a terminal, then copy and paste the following commands:
sudo cp /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so.backup
tar zxvf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
tar jxvf flash10patcher-0.2.tar.bz2
3.sudo cp libflashplayer.so flash10patcher-0.2/
4.cd flash10patcher-0.2/
5.sudo ./flash10patcher
6.sudo cp patched.libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
7.shutdown & reboot the Eee
Method 2: easily install Shockwave Flash 10.0 r32
If the above method looks difficult, this method should be easy. If you're lazy, then it covers that too! This installs version 10.0 r32.
1.click on this link, and download the file to /home/user/, then close firefox
2.open a terminal (ctl+alt+t) and back up the old file, copy/paste
sudo cp /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so.backup
3.sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
4.shut down & reboot
To check flash is updated, open firefox, and in the address bar copy/paste
about:plugins
it should read
installed plugins...

Method 3: install flash 10.0 r32 via a deb file
This method is technically the most suitable, as it is the only one in which apt is aware that a new version of flash has been installed.
1.back up the old flash file
sudo cp /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so.backup
2.download the patched flash deb file to /home/user
3.close firefox, then install the new version of flash with this command
sudo dpkg -i adobe-flash-player_10.0-r32-patched1_i386.deb
If for whatever reason you decide to roll back to your previous version of flash use the following command, making sure firefox is closed
sudo cp /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so.backup /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
then shutdown & reboot.
